Stamford Pre-Match News
Gresley FC go into tonight’s game against highly rated Stamford FC without two first choice goalkeepers.
Burton Albion loanee Jack Livesey, who missed Saturdays 1-0 win against Frickley Athletic, continues to be sidelined with a back injury whilst understudy Ben Allsop who played on Saturday and kept the team’s first clean sheet of the season is away on a week’s holiday. Allsop has been playing games out on loan at Stapenhill and with them having a clear midweek of fixtures booked a couple of weeks back to go away for a short holiday.

However, manager Gary Norton has been able to secure the services of another Burton loanee keeper and Oliver Fairbrother will come in subject to paperwork going through today.

For a while Norton thought he had pulled of a coup in persuading Burton to allow last season’s player of the year Callum Hawkins to play in tonight’s game after Burton manager Nigel Clough gave the green light but the two game emergency loan process used in the football league isn’t recognised by the Evo-Stik league meaning the only option with Callum would have been a 28 day loan which wasn’t viable.

Norton has been busy in the goalkeeper department signing two others in the last 24 hours. Former Gresley keepers Tom Gutteridge and Simon Baldwin who both live locally have registered as emergency cover with Baldwin named in the squad for tonight’s game.

Norton also has had outfield headaches in the build up to tonight’s game with a growing injury list biting into his squad.

Zakim Evans who started on Saturday limped off with an ankle injury whilst Albert Lansdowne will miss out after picking up a shoulder injury playing in a Sunday game.

Matt Roome's recovery from an ankle problem continues to make slow progress and Dexter Morris ï¿1/2¿1/2" Clarke will be out for at least 2 more weeks with a knee problem.

To add to the injuries Martin Smyth who scored the winner from the penalty spot on Saturday is missing through work commitments.

On the plus side Kane Jellyman, missing on Saturday for family reasons, returns to the squad. Reserve team defender Harry Lansdowne retains his place in the 16.
