Newcastle Pre-Match News
Manager Gary Norton will be missing from tomorrows FA Trophy game against Newcastle Town as he will be on a pre-arranged trip abroad so Carl Slater will step up and lead the team.
Gresley also go into the game without leading goalscorer Martin Smyth (work function) and captain/player coach Jamie Barrett (personal reasons) but welcome back Alex Steadman who missed last week’s 3-2 win over Pickering Town.

Gresley were hoping for the return of at least one of their injured players this week and whilst Matt Roome is close to a return from an ankle injury he needs more strengthening work before he starts playing again. Dexter Morris Clarke is concerningly showing little sign of recovering from a knee injury picked up against Sheffield FC in mid-September and will be assessed again by club physio John Newall on Saturday. Zakim Evans would have missed the game with his ankle injury but is away on holiday anyway.

Goalkeeper wise Norton had expected loan keeper Jack Livesey to be fit to play after a back injury having trained during the week at Burton. However, it seems the injury has flared up again and on Friday afternoon Norton was informed by Livesey that he was not able to play. Ben Allsop will come back into the squad after he impressed keeping the club's only clean sheet of the season in the 1-0 win over Frickley Athletic a week last Saturday.

Albert Lansdowne should have recovered from a shoulder injury to be in contention for a start.

Experienced midfielder Danny Holmes is added to the 16 man squad for this game after declaring his availability. Holmes signed as cover at the start of the season but not available on a regular basis due to his Derby County work commitments but is free and Norton feels that his involvement this weekend would add both quality and experience to the squad for what financially could be an important game from a potential prize money perspective.

Reserve team player Harry Lansdowne who was awarded man of the match on his debut last week is named in the squad as is Connor Ward and Jake McIntosh.
