Jepson Adds Another
Gresley Rovers manager James Jepson has bolstered his squad with another key addition.
Following the recent signings of 18-year-old defender Oscar McLure from Shepshed Dynamo and 17-year-old forward Micah Tomlin, Jepson has announced the arrival of experienced forward Massiah McDonald.
McDonald (34) is well known across non-league football, with key contributions at Coalville Town, AFC Rushden & Diamonds, Shepshed Dynamo and a brief time at Gresley in August 2021, as well as helping Jepson at Basford United last season at step 3. Following the recent signings of 18-year-old defender Oscar McLure from Shepshed Dynamo and 17-year-old forward Micah Tomlin, Jepson has announced the arrival of experienced forward Massiah McDonald.
McDonald has also represented Montserrat at the international level. He made his debut in 2015 during World Cup qualifiers. His wealth of experience across clubs and international appearances has made him a valuable asset on and off the pitch.
Speaking about the new signing, Jepson expressed his satisfaction with securing McDonald’s services despite late interest from another club:
“I’m happy it’s done, especially as another team tried to sign him at the last minute,” Jepson said. “Mass is a quality player who performed well for me at Step 3 last season. He was a real leader in the dressing room, which is something we need in this squad.”
Jepson praised McDonald’s character and experience, emphasizing his ability to make an impact both on and off the pitch:
“He has an edge to him that I like, and he’s also a good person with a big heart. I know how to manage him and get the best out of him. His CV speaks for itself" from playing in the National League and internationally for Montserrat, to competing across all levels of non-league football. His experience will be invaluable in helping the younger players in our squad develop.”
Looking ahead, Jepson is optimistic about McDonald’s contribution to the team:
“I’m looking forward to working with him again. He’s been training hard on his own, and I’m confident he’ll build momentum week by week. Hopefully, he can play a big role in helping us finish in a respectable position this season.”
Jepson also acknowledged the bigger picture for the club:
“This isn’t going to be a quick fix to turn Rovers into a force again, but signing Mass is a step in the right direction.”
