Striker Brian Beresford dramatically snubbed Gresley Rovers last night by refusing to play in the Moat Ground clash with Lye Town.
And the man who has scored almost 100 goals for Rovers in 2˝ now looks set for a war of words with manager Frank Northwood by joining neighbours Stapenhill.

Northwood axed Beresford for Saturday’s 5-3 win at Wolverhampton United but tried to draft him into last night’s team as a late replacement for Keith Hill.

Beresford who watched the 1-1 draw with Lye from the terraces, said: “Frank got his daughter to ring me at 5 o’clock to say I was in the side but there was no way I was going to turn out for him after the way he treated me last week.

“I don’t want to go into detail, but some of the things he has said about me behind my back are completely out of order. Apparently the rest of the team knew I was going to be dropped even before he spoke to me on the phone on Thursday.

“He’s also been very busy trying to turn people, including the committee members, against me. I’ve had offers from a few clubs and at the moment there’s a good chance I’ll be joining Stapenhill.”
