Karl Austin’s £1,000 transfer from Gresley Rovers to Banks’s League title rivals Tamworth dramatically fell through at the weekend.
And Rovers’ boss Frank Northwood today launched a scathing attack on the wayward goalkeeper’s latest brush with controversy.

Northwood blasted: “What can you say about a player who agrees terms with a club and then simply fails to turn up for the signing? Karl’s an absolute disgrace and people who’ve been saying we should have kept him at Gresley will perhaps now realise what a let down the fellow is.

“He’s not even had the decency to call either club with some sort of explanation for his behaviour. As a matter of courtesy we’ll be writing a letter of apology to Tamworth, although as a club we can’t be held responsible for Karl’s actions.”

It is the third time this season that Austin has been rebuked by Northwood. He failed to report for training last summer and earlier this year the Gresley boss vowed “to wash his hands of him” after the keeper had failed to report for a game.
