Northwood looks to the future
Story courtesy of
Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood watched his team’s last chance of this season’s Banks’s League title gurgle down the Lamb Ground drain on Saturday – then began looking ahead to next year.
The veteran supremo, who announced last night that he had reached “a happy agreement” with the club over a proposed two-year contract, said after his team’s undeserved 1-0 defeat by title rivals Tamworth: “I’m disappointed – but not with the way we played. The lads gave their all in the second half and they deserved something out of it.”

Northwood now plans to concentrate his efforts on achieving third spot – and a share of the sponsor’s cash – in an intensive run-in to this season’s programme.

The Moatmen travel to Tipton tomorrow evening and then face a number of crucial games before playing host to Tamworth on Friday 13th in what could be the game to decide the title.

And Northwood said: “We’ve got big injury problems with Mark Bromley, Keith Hill, Martin Devaney and Dean Page all doubtful. I’m hoping to fix up a loan deal to provide me with some back-up. But at the end of the day we’re facing another year in the Banks’s League. But by this time next year I would like to think we’ll have the title sewn up.”

Northwood was furious after his team’s 2-2 draw at Westfields yesterday, a performance he described as “disgusting.”

And he also berated the Banks’s League for allowing the Hereford-area club into the Premier Division.

“The facilities there just aren’t up to scratch and the league have once again let themselves down by allowing this club in. The set up was so poor that ladies were sharing toilet facilities with the referee, linesmen and spectators.”
