Rovers star duo injured

Gresley Rovers could have to continue their chase for the Banks’s League title without the services of talented striker Tracey Norton.
Norton was taken to hospital yesterday after suffering a serious groin muscle injury in the 2-2 Moat Ground deadlock with Hinckley Athletic.

The former Oldbury United front-runner was allowed home after treatment but faces a lengthy lay-off.

Manager Frank Northwood said today: “It’s too early to say just yet how long Tracey will be out, but it’s even been suggested to me that he could miss the rest of the season.”

Rovers’ also fear the worst for Norton’s striking partner Graham Jones, who hobbled off with damaged ankle ligaments, as Norton was being stretchered to the dressing room.

All in all, it was not the best of Boxing Days for Gresley, though title rivals Paget Rangers and Rushall Olympic also dropped points to soften the blow.

Gresley twice lost the lead through defensive errors – the second earning Dean Page a verbal blasting from Northwood.

Said the Rovers’ boss: “It was criminal the way Dean gave the goal away, but it was typical of our performance. I think we must have had too much Christmas pud.”
