Land to make his debut

Wembley hero Gil Land lines up against his old club tomorrow as Burton Albion attempt to prise the Johnson Cup from the grasp of Gresley Rovers.
Land, midfield anchorman in the Brewers’ 1987 FA Trophy final side, signed for Rovers last night and is immediately thrown a defender’s shirt for the Moat Ground showpiece (3pm).

And Rovers sprung another surprise by revealing they have re-signed utility man Peter Perry.

Perry’s much-publicised early summer switch to Stapenhill apparently fell through before pan had been put to paper.

Albion boss Chris Wright, meanwhile, promised supporters that his players would be taking the game seriously.

He said today: “We know we’ve got a battle on our hands, but we’re definitely going to Gresley with the intentions of winning. From my days as a player up till now I’ve always ground them a very difficult side to beat, so I’m under no illusions about the size of the task.

“It’s going to be a blood and guts game for us which is just the sort of test we need at this stage of our preparations.”

Wright names a 16-man squad, including 21-year-old defender Chris Keogh, his latest capture.

Keogh, who spent last season with Redditch United, has been signed by Wright after making a good impression as a second-half substitute at Macclesfield on Tuesday.
