Gresley boss Frank Northwood will give star signing Wayne Scally his last chance to impress in tonight’s Evans Halshaw Cup clash with Eastwood Town at the Moat Ground (7.30pm).
Northwood has been disillusioned by a string a poor performances by the Birmingham-based midfielder, who was outstanding for his former club, Paget Rangers, in a saga of cup and FA Vase games against Gresley earlier this season.

Matters came to a head after Gresley’s 2-0 defeat at Rushall on Saturday. Northwood said: “I’m obviously disappointed with Scally. The lad has so much talent but he’s just been going through the motions. When players pull on a Gresley shirt they have to play for Gresley. But his attitude has left a lot to be desired and as far as I’m concerned his days are numbered.”

Northwood has already moved to replace Scally by giving Shepshed Charterhouse seven days’ notice of his intention to approach midfielder John Barry.

And he said: “I’ve got another iron in the fire but that’s got to stay under wraps for the moment. I do hope to sign another player soon, though.”

Tonight though Northwood must concentrate his team’s efforts on the Eastwood game and a last chance to make a mark on the Evans Halshaw competition.

He has named a 15-man squad but must wait for the result of a late fitness test on Martin Dick before naming his final team.
