Big is best for Rovers
Story courtesy of Burton Mail
Although Gresley Rovers have only completed a sixth of their league programme the value of a big squad has already been clearly illuminated.
With influential skipper Richard Denby missing for the last five games ironically injured in the 3-1 win over tomorrow’s opponents Tipton Town and fellow playmaker Stuart Stokes having sustained a thigh injury against West Bromwich Town the Moatmen’s resources have already been severely tested.

Added to this, Brian Beresford, who started the season in such explosive style, with seven goals in six games as been a notable absentee with a calf injury.

However, Beresford himself, Andy Maddocks, Neil Lovell and more recently Steve Adcock have all left the substitutes bench to score goals which have proved priceless in enabling the Moatmen to preserve their unbeaten record in the league.

A name more familiar to Burton Albion followers, Dave Wood, who was on the substitutes bench in their memorable F A Trophy final against Kidderminster made his first team debut in the final ten minutes of the midweek League Cup replay against Rocester and played a minor role in the all important goal as Rovers finally killed off the Staffordshire side’s hoodoo.
