Oak facing new probe
Story courtesy of
Mile Oak Rovers are at the centre of fresh allegations surrounding their controversial FA Vase clash with Gresley Rovers.
The Scoreline Combination team were ousted from the competition after an FA hearing decided they had fielded an illegible player in the 2-1 extra-time win on November 3rd.

Now FA Commission of Inquiry ruled that goalkeeper Gary Reeves was ineligible, having signed only 48 hours before the game. Under competition rules all players must be registered at least seven days before the tie.

Mile Oak claimed Reeves’ transfer from his previous club Bloxwich had been sealed nine days before the tie, on October 26th, but that the forms were not signed by the Scoreline Combination League until November 1st.

FA Competitions Secretary Steve Clark confirmed the new probe was being launched in the wake of Gresley’s protest but would not say which players were involved.

“That protest was about one particular player which was proved and we are now investigating two other cases.” he said.

Mile Oak will be asked for their observations with the matter going to a full Challenge Vase Committee meeting in the New Year to decide what further action should be taken.

The team could then face being banned from the competition or a fine.
