Eric was a local stand-in for Joe Calvert of Leicester City against Spurs in May 1941, and earned praise despite a 1-2 home defeat.
In December 1938, he’d left HR Mansfield Sports to sign forms for Blackpool, but made no senior breakthrough there. Later with Pegsons Athletic, he also represented the Combined Services locally, and was with Coalville Town from 1945-46.
