Ambrose, son of Gilbert James McIlwrick and Hannah Maria McIlwrick, was born in Birmingham and lived in Derby.

He married Nellie who came from Breaston in Derbyshire

Ambrose originally enlisted in the General Service Corps before joining the 143 (The Kent Yeomanry) Field Regiment, Royal Artillery. (TA) and sadly died during the Western Europe Campaign 24 July 1944. Aged 35.

He is buried at Banneville-La-Campagne, Calvados, France. Grave Ref. XII. F. 4
