Gresley Rovers vs Barwell

Rovers
Reserves 1 - Barwell Reserves 3

The
Reserves started their Reserve Division campaign with
a disappointing home defeat to a Barwell side containing
Ex Moat Ground favourite Nick Stanbourough. Young
keeper Simon Baldwin was called into early action
to easily save a 20-yard drive by Ambrose after 7
minutes. Seconds later from the next attack, Rovers
took the lead when an excellent passing move involving
Nathan Sykes, Kevin Wagstaff and Paul Wilson resulted
in Karl Hancox driving home from 20 Yards into the
top corner.

Several
Further chances to increase the lead were wasted as
Rovers dominated the game in midfield. The best of
these chances came in the 43rd minute when another
good passing move saw Paul Wilson put through but
the lively striker could only drag his shot wide of
the far post. HT 1 - 0

Rovers
continued to dominate after half time with new recruit
Lewis Millington going close with a header from a
Hancox cross. Barwells were unlucky not to equalise
after 61 minutes when Baldwin partially saved from
Whittle and Andy Cheetham was on hand to clear off
the line, the clearance going straight back to Whittle
who from the edge of the box brought a superb save
from Baldwin. Rovers could and should have wrapped
the game up when both Hancox and Wagstaff wasted opportunities,
shooting wide with team mates well positioned. Barwell
equalised on 76 mins after Rovers wingback Tim Pole
had given the ball away deep in the Barwell Half.
Whittle exposed space down the left before cutting
in and slotting home. Minute's later Barwell went
2-1 up in after a bizarre attempted goal-line clearance
resulted in Andy Cheetham, under no real pressure
heading into his own net. Rovers almost equalised
on 86 mins when Poles clever through ball found Kev
Wagstaff who could only lift a clever lob onto the
bar. As Rovers pushed desperately for an equaliser,
Whittle scored Barwells third after a clever run into
the box gave him the time and space to fire past Baldwin
deep into injury time FT 1 - 3
