Gresley Rovers vs Barwell

Rovers
0 - 5 Barwell (HT: 0:2) (Challenge Bowl)

Sat October 28th 2000

Rovers
chances in the Challenge Bowl have almost evaporated
after this disappointing defeat at home to high riding
Barwell. The game started brightly for Rovers with
some neat approach play had Kev Wagstaff to blame
for missing a gilt edged chance to make it 1-0, the
midfielder doing everything right but score from close
range, hitting the post instead. New Signing, former
Derby County Reserve player, Amrit Sidhu was instrumental
in much of Rovers good work early on but it was Barwell
who had the next chance to score after Neal Bateman
brought down Lucas in the box to give away a penalty.
Paul Madely saved the kick with a good save down to
his left. Barwell scored after 24mins when a mix up
in the defence saw Lucas lob over the stranded Madely
from 25 yards. Rovers were two down a minute later
after a slip by Bateman let in Orton to drive past
the stranded Madely. Curry beat the offside trap to
make it 0-3 on 71 minutes before Curry again and then
Lucas scored two late goals to complete the disappointing
game from a Rovers point of view.
