Gresley Rovers vs Banbury United

Rovers
Reserves 3 - 0 Banbury Utd Reserves

(LEAGUE)

Rovers
reserves after a couple of week inactivity got back
to winning ways on Monday night against a young Banbury
side. Greg Smith started the ball rolling after 4
minutes, converting an Ian Lees cross with a fine
header that looped into the empty net as Smith beat
the onrushing Banbury goalkeeper. Fifteen minutes
later, Steve Campbell made it 2-0 when his fine mazey
run past several defenders resulted in an equally
good finish. Kev Wagstaff completed the scoring after
30 minutes with a fine 25 yard drive into the bottom
corner of the net after some tidy approach play released
him down the left hand side. The youth teamer Tom
Witham had to be withdrawn towards the end of the
first half with an ankle injury and Matt Moran, also
from the youth team was a half time substitute and
showed well in the second half. Injury to Mark Dennis
in the 2nd period saw the introduction of goalkeeper
Simon Baldwin into an outfield position and to his
credit, Simon did well. The second half was a disappointing
affair, with neither side troubling each other with
chances of any significance.
