Stapenhill vs Gresley Rovers

Reserves earn a point

Stapenhill
were held to a draw by a youthful Rovers reserve side at Edge Hill on
Saturday.

Former Rovers
player Paul Wardle almost opened the scoring for the Swans after 5 minutes
when he headed a Turner cross against the cross bar but the ball was safely
hooked away.

The best
chance for Rovers came on 31 minutes when Jon Jenkinson got behind the
Swans defence easily and made keeper Neil Akers pull off a great save.

Rovers' youth
team keeper, Chris Tilson was not so fortunate when he attempted to clear
a back pass. He completely missed the ball allowing Gaskin to put the
ball in the empty net on 33 minutes.

The young
keeper did however redeem himself by pulling off two fine saves from Spencer
and Allum.

Kevin Wagstaff
almost levelled thing for the Rovers when he chipped the home keeper from
30 yrds which hit the base of the post only for Akers to prevent Jenkinson's
follow up.

Rovers continued
to press for an equaliser and Lonergan had a good shot saved on 65 minutes
and a minute later the pressure paid off.

James Lewesley
made a fine run down the left wing and crossed a superb ball into the
box for Ryan Yearsley to head past Akers.
