Gresley Rovers vs Long Eaton United

Gresley Rovers Reserves 0 - 5 Long Eaton Reserves

This Derbyshire Divisional Cup South game didn't start in the way Rovers would have hoped.

The match had only been going for 11 minutes when Long Eaton took the lead. A good cross from the right was missed by Adam Thorley leaving the former Moatman Graeme Fowkes time to pick his spot as he smashed in a shot from 15 yards that beat Tom Allan.

Rovers tried to hit back almost immediately with Richard Hanslow firing across the face of the goal and just the wrong side of the far post.

However, against the run of play Long Eaton doubled their lead and again it was due to a piece of slack defending.

The Rovers defence stood off and Colin Dewhurst carved through the defence unchallenged before slamming in the visitors' second.

Half hour gone and things went from bad to worse when a free kick into Rovers' box gave the Long Eaton forward time to power home a free header.

Rovers deserved at least one goal with Hanslow going close on several occasions but on 51 minutes Long Eaton stretched their lead even further.

A free kick was sent into the Rovers' box and James Hewson was on hand to slid the ball home.

The scoring was completed when another good cross from Fowkes found Courtney Bonnick who hit a thunderous shot past Allan from 11 yards.

Rovers had Allan to thank for keeping the score to five as he made several top-drawer saves to deny Long Eaton.

The home side went very close at the end when a superb curled attempt from the left beat the keeper but landed on the top of the bar.
