Friar Lane & Epworth vs Gresley Rovers

Friar Lane & Epworth 1 - 0 Gresley Rovers

Gresley Rovers were hoping to shake off the heavy midweek defeat at the Moat Ground against Long Eaton Reserves in the Derbyshire Divisional Cup.

Unfortunately, this next fixture was against the high-flying Friar Lane & Epworth side on the Whittier Road ground.

Rovers were giving as good as they got and were comfortably holding the home side until the 31st minute. A good through ball saw Morton run on to slot the only goal of the game past Tom Allen.

Baillie went close to grabbing an equaliser but fired his shot just wide as Rovers created a few good chances.

Allan in the Rovers' goal came to the rescue on numerous occasions saving first from a Pullen free kick and then saving high balls played into his area.

Friar Lane started the second period strongly with Allan again in top form quickly leaving his line to smother the ball at the feet of Nenbhurn.

Rovers began to get back into the game and should have tested the home keeper Edwards when Holmes pulled back the ball but Tucker was unable to connect with the ball.

The visitors' chance of salvaging a point evaporated when Tom Astle was shown a red card for two bookable offences and from the free kick Matt Brown followed his teammate off the pitch when the referee adjudged that he had pushed Foglila on the edge of the box.
