Holbrook Miners Welfare vs Gresley FC

Reserve Team manager Martyn Rowntree give his report on the recent pre-season friendly at Holbrook Miners Welfare which finished 1 - 1.

"I took a squad of sixteen players to Holbrook consisting of two more new trialists and two existing trialists.

"We started off the game very lively and competed well. The two new lads seem to settle in very quickly and were forming some kind of partnership down our left hand side especially Jay who was playing left midfield.

"He was ghosting past their right back with relative ease and delivering decent balls in the box which we failed to capitalise on.

"Pete Collins who started at left back looked very accomplished and dealt with everything that came his way.

"Unfortunately after our lively start we conceded what was for us a disappointing goal. Our back four got caught square and were beat by one long ball down our right channel and to be fair their forward finished it tidily.

"After half time I made a few changes which disrupted us a little and it took us five or ten minutes to settle down again but when we did we started to play some descent stuff, and had five or six opportunities to draw level, which we eventually did with five minutes to go.

"A long goal kick by Tom Allan was picked up by substitute Mat Draycott with his first touch of the game slotted it confidently past the keeper.

"Overall I was pleased with our performance and look forward to our next friendly against Quorn F C on Wednesday which will be a good test to see how far off we are.

"After the game on Saturday I am pleased to say that Pete Collins and Richard Clarke both signed reserve team forms. I spoke to Jay also but he wanted the weekend to think about it and hopefully he will sign after the Quorn game on Wednesday night."
