Banbury United vs Gresley FC

Banbury United 0 - 2 Gresley

Scorer: Burnham 2

Saturday was the first league game of the season of 2009/10 and also the first league game as Gresley FC.

On a very hot and humid afternoon manager Martyn Rowntree had only thirteen players travelling down to Banbury with six or seven players of the squad unavailable due to work or holidays and was expecting a difficult afternoon.

The lads dug deep and worked extremely hard for 90 minutes and their efforts were rewarded on 70 minutes when a good move down the right saw Sam Worth, who tormented their left back all game, force a corner.

Andy Dunn delivered a driven ball on to substitute Scott Allsopp's and his header was going in the far post but Chris Burnham got a touch on it to make sure.

Burnham scored his and his team's second with a well taken goal, looping the ball over their central defender and then over the keeper from inside the eighteen yard box.

"Overall, the team worked hard," remarked Rowntree, " but we need to start to work together as units and as a team not just as individuals, but that will come with some hard work on the training ground."

Squad: Paul Hollis, Richard Dawson, Pete Collins, Lee Stretton, Joe Tomlin, Andy Dunn, Sam Worth, Paul Friel, Chris Burnham, Matt Draycott, Joe Swift.
Subs: Scott Allsopp, Martyn Rowntree.
