Gresley Rovers vs Solihull Borough

Rovers bow to leaders

Lee Westwood's second half strike proved to be the only consolation for Gresley in a 3-1 defeat by Midland Combination reserve division leaders Solihull Borough at the Moat Ground.

While Rovers gave much needed match practice to Westwood, Mark Peters and Paul Fletcher, the visitors included three players who took part in Solihull's 5-0 Dr Martens League demolition of Rovers 11 days earlier.

Solihull broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when Naveed Ashed's shot took a wicked deflection before beating Ian Roberts.

Darren Jones, making his debut for Rovers having joined from Solihull, almost crowned the occasion with a shot which rebounded out after hitting the inside of the far post.

However, it took two splendid saves by Roberts to deny both Simon Hollis and Darren Shaw.

Gresley were on level terms for just seven minutes before Hollis supplied a comprehensive finish and then laid on a second goal for Ashed.
