Gresley Rovers vs Coventry Sphinx

A very poor performance by Rovers Youth team against a mediocre Coventry Sphinx team in the 1st round of the League Cup.

In the first half Gresley pretty well held their own but Coventry began to put pressure on and broke through a few times bringing out a couple of good saves from the Gresley keeper which kept them in the game.

The second half was a different story with Rovers defence seeming to allow the visitors to waltz through unaided and again test the Gresley keeper Baldwin on more than one occasion.

Unfortunately even though Baldwin managed to pull off good saves he was left alone to try and stem the growing tide of Coventry pressure. Lacking any defensive help it was inevitable that Rovers would concede. And concede they did!

Coventry blitzed the unfortunate Rovers goal scoring six without reply.

But with only 10 minutes or so left to play Rovers at least hit the back of the Coventry net with two late goals from Kieran Hemmings and Richard Jarvis giving the scoreline a slightly better look.

Final score:

Gresley Rovers (0) 2

Coventry Sphinx (0) 6
