Gresley Rovers vs Hednesford Town

With virtually a full squad to choose from we were looking forward to a good tussle with probably the best team in the league. Hednesford had not lost a league fixture since early last season when we beat them at the Moat Ground 3-2, though they went on to beat us heavily away 5-1.

Town got off to a great start putting our back line under immense pressure, we had to allow them to play, keeping the ball in deep areas so that we could recover our lines and this seemed to work very well with Alex bolt causing problems up front with his pace.

With good football being played by both teams for most of the game a fair result would have been a draw but unfortunately it was not to be. Tom skinner in top form at the moment was unlucky enough to se a penalty saved by their keeper and then impressive Johnie Guthrie saw a goal disallowed for a very dodgy offside, Chris Bennett then went on to hit the woodwork all in the final quarter of an hour.

It was Alex Bolt who scored our goal as it was who got felled by the last defender late on when clean through, the player got sent off but I would rather have seen Alex to have gone through one on one than have a free kick about 30 yards out.

All in all this was a very impressive performance and I hope that we can recreate it a few more times this term.

Gresley team performance was very good 9/10.

Dean Amess (asst manager).
