Stourbridge vs Gresley Rovers

The words "from one extreme to another" comes into mind after this performance, again the opponents got off to a good start but we could not seem to get going and got more and more under pressure. I thought it was going to be one of those nights but just when all seemed dark the light of Guthrie's right foot shone, after receiving the ball about 35 yards out he dribbled around a couple of players looked up to see the keeper slightly off his line he curled a delightful ball into the far top corner of the net. Unfortunately this seemed to antagonise the opposition and they began to give us a lesson in football.

Poor passing out of defence when a long ball would have been the order of the day saw two goals taken very easily, a long drive saw the keeper beaten and to be fair the other goal was just the bad luck that we had been having all night when a clearance deflected to the feet of the striker who drilled it into the net.

The last 15 mins saw a mini turn around, Joe Brockly was felled in the box only to see the ref give a goal kick, then Lee Mitchell was unfairly sent off for a second booking and then Alex Bolt was clattered from behind in a terrible tackle, bolt jumped to his feet angrily and the ref told him to calm down and gave them the free kick. I'm not blaming the ref they were the better tem but basic decisions going the wrong way all evening tends to get players rubbed up the wrong way.

This was a poor performance by Gresley and not on our agenda again, players missing did give chances to younger lads, skinner (suspended), Mawby (suspended), Ward (dead leg), Coulson (tonsillitis), gave outings for butler, Hoogendyk and Dickinson.

Gresley performance poor, 5/10.
