Red Lion Horninglow Reserves vs Gresley Rovers

Horninglow Red Lion Res 5 - 4 Gresley Rovers Youth

Scorers: Holmes, Hanslow 2, Gough

Team: Tom Allan, Danny Gee, Adam Leniham, Gaz Jones(c), Nathan Venning, Olly Baum, Dean Acton, Matt Holmes, Chris Smith, Jordi Gough, Rich Hanslow Subs: Nathan Holmes, Stu Haywood

Started the game without a ref for the first 5 minutes then went a goal down on 20 minutes. However we kept battling and drew level with a piece of pure magic from Matt Holmes, dribbling past 3 players to put his shot away into the bottom corner.

Then went 2-1 up when Rich Hanslow scored putting the ball through the keeper's legs. Thought this might be the kickstart we needed, however it was not to be, when we conceded a free kick outside our 18yrd box and they headed the equaliser. Just before half time they made it 3-2 when, from a corner, their striker had a free header on goal.

We kicked off and within four passes Danny Gee picked out Jordi Gough who took the ball into their area and coolly slotted the ball past their keeper to make it 3-3.

Ten minutes later they were down to ten men when one of their players decided to head butt Nathan Venning. We bought on Nathan Holmes for Dean Acton and went 4-3 up when Rich Hanslow headed home. We had a lucky break when Ton Allen conceded a penalty only for them to hit the bar but we couldn't hold on to the lead when again some sloppy defending allowed them to equalise again!

They then scored their winner and although they twice cleared off the line and their keeper making some good saves we couldn't score. One good thing was Stu Haywood got his chance in goal when we were forced to play Tom out when Olly picked up an injury.

Thought we gave away 3 points today through some sloppy defending however that's what we're in this league for TO LEARN and on any other day could have easily won it!!

Man of the Match: Matt Holmes, showed everyone what he's capable of.
