Hammerwich vs Gresley Rovers

Hammerwich 2 - 7 Gresley Rovers

Smith 2, Venning, Hanslow 3, Holmes

Team: Tom Allan, Danny Gee, Karl Whymark, Gaz Jones(c), Adam Leniham, Liam Chisholm, Zak Venning, Dean Acton, Matt Holmes, Rich Hanslow, Chris Smith.
Subs: Stu Haywood, Nathan Venning

Played Hammerwich in the cup and again with injuries and players unavailable started with only 2 subs. We were the better side from the start and within ten minutes went 1-0 up when Chris Smith broke through to coolly slot the ball past their keeper. Five minutes later we were 2 up when Zak Venning found space at the back post to rifle the ball into the net. We still played all the football and 2 goals before half time from Rich Hanslow made it 4-0 by half time.

Started off the second half with Stu Haywood in goal after Tom injured his back and to be honest went to sleep a little and gave Hammerwich time to settle on the ball and gave them the chance to put pressure on us, and although their 2 goals were sloppy, they pulled back to 4-2. I think this triggered us to start playing the sort of football we had first half and it was soon 5-2 when Chris found Matt Holmes, from a long throw, and Matt hit a quality volley into the top corner. Every attack we looked dangerous and Matt again showing his pace was brought down in their area so Rich stepped up and slotted it in for his hat trick. Then Chris made it 7-2 with another fine finish which was well deserved with all the work he'd done all game.

Think today we've seen what we're capable of when we believe in ourselves as a team and it showed. Thought everyone played well and the defence, midfield and attack all looked solid with good teamwork from all of you, WELL DONE. Lets take this into our next game?

I again would have found it hard to have pick MoM and think Rich scoring
his hat trick must have come close but can't disagree with Hammerwich giving
it to Matt Holmes who again showed his skill, and great attitude.
