Netherseal St Peters vs Gresley Rovers

Netherseal St Peters 2 - 3 Gresley Rovers

Scorers: Morton 2, Jones (pen)

Team: Stu Haywood, Danny Gee, Gaz Jones, Tom Gregory, Nath Venning, Mark Shorthouse, Steve Pepper, Tom Fletcher, Dean Acton, Rich Hanslow, Paul Morton.

We played Netherseal away in the cup and after last weeks solid performance expected the same and I'm pleased to say that's exactly what we did. We again were down to our bare eleven so we needed to dig deep and work hard, which luckily we always do.

Started off with several players asked to play out of position and they rose to the challenge and we started off playing some good football. We took the lead when Paul Morton broke free and coolly slotted past their keeper and were unlucky not to be 2-0 up when a great through ball from Tom Fletcher found Morton and the keeper kept it at 1-0. It stayed 1-0 until half time.

Second half we still played some good football but got caught out and 1-1 it was. We were soon back in the lead when Morton beat the offside again and put us 2-1 up and this left them with the need to push for an equaliser. We gave a free kick away on the edge of our area and Netherseal scored from it and we needed to compose ourselves. This we did and with 5 minutes to go Morton again broke free only to be brought down by the keeper, for which he was sent off, and Gaz Jones stepped up to make it 3-2 from the penalty spot.

We hung on for the win with great dogged defending and that's how it stayed.
We keep improving and showed today that we can match any team with attitude and beat most with skill! It also shows our true grit with some lads playing injured and what a good strong squad we have. Everyone came off exhausted, which shows you all gave it everything WELL DONE.

Being a cup game it's again left to me and Ivor to choose the Man-of-the-Match so that's easy All Eleven at the top of the report.
