Gresley Rovers vs Shobnall Sports

Gresley Rovers 4 - 2 Shobnall Sports

Scorers: Baum 2, Hanslow, Fetcher

Team: Tom Allan, Danny Gee, Carl Wymark ,Gaz Jones (c),Tom Gregory, Nath Venning, Tom Fletcher, Todd Foster ,Olly Baum, Mark Shorthouse, Rich Hanslow.
Subs: Stu Haywood, Ben Kinson, Zak Venning

Having not played Shobnall yet we didn't really know what to expect,so we started off the better side ,although not playing as good as we know we can!. We had a few chances early on but never gave their keeper too many problems.

On 16 minutes we went a goal behind when we gave away a freekick on the edge of our area and Gaz Jones was unlucky to put it in our own net while trying to clear the shot. However, within 3 minutes we were level when Rich
Hanslow crossed a great ball to be met with a sweet left foot shot from Olly Baum.

We then went 2-1 up when Baum again took a great left foot strike from the edge of the area, putting it in the far top corner giving their keeper no chance.

New signing Todd Foster, who I thought settled in well
playing some great football, was unlucky not to score when the referee blew for half time just before the ball hit the net.

Second half we again created a few chances, but never really tested the keeper, and 10 minutes in we swapped Foster for Zak Venning. It was Zak Venning's closing down
which forced an error from the keeper that Hanslow, with his back to goal, turned and netted past the stranded keeper. We should have been cruising, but we gave away a goal so 3-2 it was.

We then swapped Carl Wymark for Ben Kinson with 20 minutes left and then went 4-2 up when Tom Fletcher scored a superb individual effort.

Today we weren't at our best, however we got another 3 points and again showed that we can score and come from behind. There was plenty of positives though because I thought Todd and Zak did really well so it again shows what
strength in depth we have.

A little bit of concern was the fact that we started blaming each other once or twice for mistakes something we never do and don't want to start doing!

Thought that Shobnall was a credit to themselves because they were a really sporting side, and played in the spirit that the game should be played.

So 8 games unbeaten and in two semi finals sitting top of the league we know how good we are and can improve even more so lets keep it up lads.

A quick mention to Nath and Zak's dad who reads these in Canada you can be sure that you're missing some great football mate!

MoM: Olly Baum, scored two great goals and put in some quality crosses.
