Newhall United Reserves vs Gresley Rovers

Newhall United Reserves 2 - 1 Gresley Rovers

Scorer: Hanslow

Team: Tom Allan, Carl Wymark, Gaz Jones(c), Olly Baum, Mark Shorthouse, Nathan Holmes, Tom Fletcher, Todd Foster, Chris Smith, Dean Acton, Rich Hanslow. Subs:Stu Haywood, Paul Morton, Nathan Worthington.

An away game to our local rivals today in our third game in the supplementary cup. We were without Nath Venning and Mat Holmes due to them being called up to play for the reserves. However, we were boosted by the fact that Paul Morton, who broke his leg in two places earlier in the season, was fit enough to start as sub. Also a special thanks to Paul Holmes, who at 12.45pm sorted me two of the under 17's,with Nathan Worthington and the return of
Nathan Holmes.

So we started off quite brightly, with 15 minutes gone, was 1-0 up from a coolly taken Hanslow goal. We had most of the play but again were unable to add to our lead, but the back three restricted them to very few chances. We
tried hard, but again, the final ball just lacked that extra bit of quality. Midfield were winning everything, with Shorthouse and Holmes working hard, winning tackles and passing some good balls around.

At half time we was forced to make a sub, with Shorthouse playing in pain, from an injury picked up at training. So we bought on Morton and put Hanslow in midfield, and Morton was soon back to what he does best, chasing everything down. We started to get intimidated and they got on top. Foster was struggling with ashma, so with 30 minutes left we made our last sub, putting Haywood up front! They equalised with 20 minutes left and made it 2-1 with 10 to go.

So we can say that our next game in the competition we'll be playing for pride because the result makes it impossible to progress. However, we need to remember, that we had a patched up side, but it shows our true committment, when Haywood went on as an outfield player and worked his heart out. So our next game is the" BIG ONE" the semi-final up the Moat against The Red Lion so we need to compete for 90 minutes and I know we're good enough
to get the result we deserve! So lets work, battle and believe.

Mom is my choice and to be honest can't choose between Gaz Jones and Nathan Holmes so I think you'll need to share it!
