Marley vs Gresley Rovers

Marley 3 - 2 Gresley Rovers

Scorers: Allan, Morton

Team: Nath Venning, Danny Gee, Carl Wymark, Gaz Jones(c), Tom Gregory, Mark Shorthouse, Tom Fletcher, Rich Hanslow, Chris Smith, Tom Allan, Paul Morton

Subs: Dean Acton, Todd Foster, Andy Morrisson, Stu Haywood, Zak Venning.

We played Marley in a friendly, with them wanting a game before a tour to Germany, and had the use of rolling subs. They're a team, sponsored by their company, and travel from far away to play and having 2 or 3 semi-professional players.

We started off with Nath Venning in goal, due to his damaged knee, and put Tom Allan up front to partner Paul Morton. We started off quite well and made a few chances, however Marley were a well organised side, and came forward in numbers causing us a few problems at the back.

On 20 minutes we went a goal behind but we kept playing to our strengths, and when Chris Smith crossed a quality
ball, it was met at the back post by Allan to draw level. But with 10 minutes to half time we went 2-1 down when again their midfield made unchallenged runs into our area.

Second half we put Stu Haywood in goal and Morton drew us level again with a great strike, and that's how it stayed until a lapse in concentration, allowed them a free shot on goal to win with 6 minutes left.

Today was a good test for us with the luxury, due to rolling subs, to try players in different positions. The result was not exactly what we'd want, but it was a good performance considering how many changes we made to the
team. So considering this fact I think we did ourselves justice, and with one more game left, think our season has been good but there's still room for improvement. Let's end on a high by giving our league champions a good run on
Saturday!
